The First and Only FDA-Approved Medicine To Alleviate Feline Transport and Vet-Visit Acute Anxiety and Fear

Bonqat (pregabalin oral solution) is available from your veterinarian.

The active ingredient in Bonqat, pregabalin, works by decreasing the release of excitatory chemicals in the brain involved in acute anxiety and fear.

Bonqat should be given 1.5 hours prior to traveling or a vet visit. It’s rapidly absorbed, and in a study, peak effective levels occurred between 30 minutes and 1 hour after proper label dosing in unfed cats.

Bonqat can be administered either directly by mouth using the provided dosing syringe or in a small amount of food (a teaspoon of moist food or about 10 kibbles of dry food). Water can be given freely.

In a study, when administered at labeled dose, cat owners assessed the response as excellent or good during the transportation in 54.3% of cases compared to 27.1% in the placebo group. Veterinarians assessed the response as excellent or good during the clinical examination in 52% of cases compared to 30% in the placebo group. The owner’s ability to place the cat into the carrier was improved in the group administered Bonqat compared to the placebo group. The greatest improvement was in the following behaviors: vocalization, panting/intense breathing, resistance, and freezing.

Bonqat has been approved as safe in alleviating acute anxiety and fear associated with transportation and veterinary visits in cats. Possible side effects can include incoordination, tiredness, and vomiting. Some cats might be more sensitive to Bonqat; if your cat appears to be uncoordinated or overly tired, keep it warm and do not offer food or water until the effect of Bonqat has worn off. This will normally happen within a few hours. Contact your veterinarian if you have concerns.

Bonqat can be given for two consecutive days.
